Square Footage Calculator

Find the area of a room from length and width, then add more rooms for a running total. Enter dimensions in feet, inches, or meters. Each area is shown in square feet and square meters so you can convert as you go. Use it for flooring, paint coverage, or a simple floor plan. Figures are a rectangle estimate; split L-shapes into extra rooms. Nothing leaves your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate square footage?

For a rectangle, multiply length by width in the same unit. A 16 ft by 14 ft room is 224 sq ft. This tool converts inches (÷ 12) and meters (÷ 0.3048) to feet first, then multiplies, so mixed rooms still total in square feet and square meters.

How do I convert square feet to square meters?

1 square foot equals 0.09290304 square meters, from the international foot (1 ft = 0.3048 m). Multiply sq ft by that factor, or divide sq m by it to get square feet. The converter at the bottom of the page does both.

Can I add more than one room?

Yes. Add a room for each rectangle. The running total is the sum of every room’s area. Name rooms if you want (living room, hallway). Remove a room if you added one by mistake; at least one room must remain.

How do I enter inches versus feet?

Set Units to Feet, Inches, or Meters for that room. A 12 ft 6 in wall can be 12.5 feet or 150 inches. Length and width for a room share one unit. Use a second room if another space is measured in meters.

What about L-shaped rooms or closets?

Treat an L-shape as two rectangles and add both. Closets, hallways, and alcoves are extra rooms. Irregular or circular spaces are not modeled here; this is length × width only.

Is this a materials or contractor estimate?

No. It reports area only. Flooring, tile, and paint need extra for waste, pattern match, and cuts. Confirm coverage with the product label or a contractor. Numbers stay in your browser.
