Credit Card Payoff Calculator

Estimate how many months a fixed payment takes to clear a credit card balance, the approximate payoff date, total interest, and the total amount paid. Enter the current balance, APR, and monthly payment. Add an optional extra payment to compare months saved and interest saved. Each month the remaining balance is multiplied by the monthly rate (APR divided by 12), then the payment is subtracted, until the balance is zero. New charges are not included. If the payment is not larger than the first month of interest, the balance cannot fall. This is an estimate only, not a consolidation offer or a live rate.

Amount you would pay off. New charges are not included.

Annual percentage rate. Monthly rate is APR divided by 12.

Fixed amount you plan to send. Must be more than the first month of interest.

Added on top of the monthly payment to compare a faster payoff.

Frequently asked questions

How long will it take to pay off a credit card?

It depends on the balance, APR, and monthly payment. A higher payment cuts the number of months and the total interest. This calculator uses only the numbers you enter.

What payment formula is used?

Each month, interest is the remaining balance multiplied by the monthly rate (APR divided by 12). The payment is then subtracted, and the loop repeats until the balance is zero. The last payment is capped at the remaining balance plus that month’s interest.

Does this include new charges?

No. It models paying down the current balance only. New purchases, fees, and a changing APR are not included.

What is the difference between a minimum payment and a fixed payment?

A card’s minimum often shrinks as the balance falls, which stretches the payoff. A fixed extra payment pays the balance off faster than a shrinking minimum. Enter the amount you plan to send each month.

Is this a consolidation offer?

No. This is an estimate only. It does not pull live rates, check credit, or issue a loan.
